Full Description

Pakenham Hall (site of). Mansion belonging to the Spring family in the C16 and C17. Sir William Spring Bt, had 23 heaths here in 1674. The house is depicted on Hodskinsons Map of Suffolk 1783, where it is shown as having a triple-gabled frontage. An avenue is shown to the west of the house between the two roads. It was then the seat of J Godbold Esq (S1). Demolished between 1804, when shown on enclosure map, and 1810, when no longer on estate maps.
Site is now cultivated and broken red bricks discolour the surface of the soil. `The site almost adjoins Old Hall Farm but is nearer the windmill and at the top of the hill that slopes all the way down to the river' (S2).
