Full Description
December 1995: Monitoring of SCC test-pitting on proposed roundabout site. Seven 0.3m long by 0.6m wide trenches sunk to 3.5-4.0m depth. Test pit (TP) 7 recently (Post Medieval) disturbed to circa 2m. TP1, 3 & 5 produced no archaeological finds or features although TP 3 & 5 both had colluvial deposits. TP2 had buried (archaeological?) deposit below topsoil and circa 70cm of colluvium. Two ditches, both with single sherds of `flint-gritted' `Iron Age' type pottery were found in TP4 and one in TP6. The only other finds were surface finds of a single flint gritted sherd of pottery and two sherds of Rom pottery, and a single flint flake. Details in (S1).
Descriptions the flint flake is broad, dating to a specific period bracket is ill-advised. However, they may be later Prehistoric, based on details of discovery, (S2).
