Full Description

September 1996: Watching brief over excavation of strip foundations revealed intact footings of (C16?) wall above an organic loam deposit, possibly an earlier ditch infill, and various features. Some of the pits contained rich organic layers and charcoal though ecofacts were generally uncommon (animal bone & oyster shell was discarded) and artefacts were totally lacking. Features underlying the (C16?) wall are likely to be Med or earlier (details in (S1)).
