Full Description
Carlford and Colneis Incorporated Hundred Workhouse, constructed in 1756 (the earliest in Suffolk). Background information in (S1). Riot to pull down workhouse dispelled by troops in 1765.
In 1803 House of Industry (presumably same?). 187 inmates in 1841, closed in 1900 (when inmates transferred to Ipswich).
Demolished after 1904 (shown on OS map that year?) according to Edwards (S6). Naction House built on footprint in (or by) 1926 (S2)(S6).
Amberfield School for girls built on site (incorporating earlier buildings?) (S3).
Burial ground on opposite side of road at TM 221 407 (S4)(S5), disused by 1926 (S2).
Pest House suggested at TM 252 4073 by field named `Sickhouse Field' to SE and Hospital Piece to SW (S5).
