Full Description

Concentric ring ditch cropmark. Outer ditch very faint and fine, circa 50- 60m diameter, inner very broad ditch, circa 25-30m diameter (S1). Transected by later(?) field boundary ditch.
Tithe for Wickhambrook names this field 'Mound Lay' and shows the inner ditch as being water filled, adjoining 'Moat Field' (on NE side) and 'Clamp Field' (on S side)(S2); Denston tithe names it 'Mount Lay' (S3).
Function and date unknown though possible partial preservation into early 19th century (though field names suggest not always ploughed) may suggest relatively recent and location on slope may suggest mill site. Similarly location near main Bury-Haverhill Road may suggest possible gallows site?
