Full Description
Small rectilinear enclosure, possible building. Irregular marks to E - possibly geological (S1).
Searchlight battery site (S2). Noted on NAU AP TM 5397/A/AFS 5 8 July 1976. Existence of site file noted on HER card but nothing found 6 March 1986. See also BLN 008.
Aerial photographs from August 1941 (S4) show 3 irregular rectilinear trenches inside a large barbed wire obstruction enclosure. These trenches would have formed part of a bombing decoy, containing fires lit to create false targets to draw enemy bombers away from inhabited areas. The site is linked by a linear barbed wire feature to another probable decoy circa 300m to the west (see record COR 041). There is also another probable bombing decoy circa 300m to the east on the cliff-top north of Corton (see record COR 040). These sites would presumably have worked together as an important part of the World War II defence of this area. The features can still be clearly seen on aerial photographs from 1944 (S5)
