Full Description
1840: Slaughden Quay (wharf) with coal yards, saltings etc (S1). In 1679 said to be commodious quay with warehouses and fish-houses plus facilities for fish drying.... said to be only place in England for drying and redding of sprats. Also recorded as Aldeburgh Quay in 1783. Mapped in 1787 (S2).
Note: Lime kiln recorded at Slaughden, see sf14904.
Shown on map of circa 1570-80 as 'The Keye' and marked as timber (?) lined (artificial) channel to E of River Alde (probably now partly eroded) as far as long row of buildings named 'The store howses' along top of beach.
