Full Description
July 1999: Section excavated through E-W ditches running along south edge of Mustow Street. Two ditch cuts from part of two large drains surrounding precinct wall. Earlier cut filled by late C15/early C16 timber framed building built over the top. See Report 99/67 (S1).
According to Richard Yates (in early C19?( the whole precinct was surrounded by a wall and ditch. The ditch ran from the east gate to St Mary's Church and then to the river below the Great Cemetery. It was filled up in 1749. 'Many person 50 years ago remember several wooden bridges' across this ditch to the monastery (S2).
