Full Description
July 2000: Ditch and pottery deposit, possibly in feature, found in footing trenches behind 405 Kennedy Street (S1). Archaeological monitoring at TL 7256 7997, during military housing refurbishment on Thunderbird Way and Kennedy Street, uncovered Roman features and buried soils. The pottery dating of the features indicated that the main phase of activity was in the c. 2nd to 3rd centuries AD and that these were then sealed by buried soil deposits containing material from the late 3rd and 4th centuries AD. This evidence extends the known area of Roman settlement on the base and is probably a part of the large site, ERL 089, identified immediately to the south (S2).
Also Roman inhumation - see Undated.
Included in the Proceedings of the Suffolk Institute of Archaeology and History annual round up of individual finds and discoveries for 2001 (S4).
