Full Description

Archaeological monitoring during the construction of a new road around the perimeter of the north side of the runway and associated new drainage at RAF Lakenheath revealed an area of dense pits and ditches dating ot the Middle Iron Age (LKH 211). The site lies within an extensive multi-period site (LKH 070+) identified by Grace, Lady Briscoe, Mr A. Graham and Mr C. Gordon in the 1930's and 40's and is part of Iron Age settlement (LKH 014) identified during construction of the air-base in the late 1930's (S1).

Assessment of the potential for the analysis and publication of the archaeologicial finds at RAF Lakenheath (S2).
