Full Description

Two trial trenches were excavated to investigate the location of the curtain wall and entrance causeway at Orford Castle. Residual Roman pottery was recovered from the upper fill of the castle ditch to the north of the keep and from a dump layer overlying walls near the south-western entrance and interpreted as a rudimentary barbican (S1).
