Summary

Sections of two probable enclosures, banks and ditches of a possible Iron Age- Roman date are seen as cropmarks on aerial photographs. The enclosures consist of an internal ditch, a bank and an exterior ditch. There is also a number of cropmark banks and ditches in close proximity which may relate to the enclosures. It is possible that the enclosures are Iron Age-Roman in date. The cropmark banks and ditch may also be Iron Age-Roman in date however they could also be medieval in date and possibly relate to Wordwell medieval settlement remains to the west (WRW 003).

Full Description

Cropmarks of two 3 sided sub-rectangular enclosures, open to the west. Circa 40m & 80m wide. Larger enclosure to south, appears to have second parallel edge on S side. Other, less clear cropmarks relate. Note: Do not align with existing field boundaries and road. S1

Sections of two probable enclosures, banks and ditches of a possible Iron Age- Roman date are seen as cropmarks on aerial photographs (S2-S3). The enclosures (centred at TL 8301 7207 and at TL8303 7199) consist of an internal ditch, a bank and an exterior ditch. There is also a number of cropmark banks and ditches in close proximity which may have related to the enclosures. It is possible that the enclosures are Iron Age-Roman in date. The cropmark banks and ditch may also be Iron Age-Roman in date however they could also be medieval in date and possibly relate to Wordwell medieval settlement remains to the west (WRW 003). The enclosures are in close proximity to a possible Bronze Age Ring Ditch to the north (WRW 097) and Wordwell Medieval settlement remains to the west (WRW 003). The monument polygon has been amended to correlate with the features positions on the aerial photographs.
