Full Description

This report is a brief summary of the results of an archaeological field evaluation of Phase 1 of the Liberty Village development, RAF Lakenheath. Two areas were identified for subsequent excavation, an apparent Bronze Age barrow with a central crouched inhumation (hevaily disturbed) of a probable female aged 15-18 (ERL 148) and an occupation area with a dense spread of Iron Age pits (ERL 147). Together these demonstrated the presence of activity over a long period through the Bronze and Iron Ages (S1). The full report on the evaluation results will be included with any future work.

2006: An aerial photographic assessment identified a field boundary across the north of the site that appeared to be a continuation those found as part of ERL 147 (S2).

Assessment of the potential for the analysis and publication of the archaeologicial finds at RAF Lakenheath (S4)

Included in the Proceedings of the Suffolk Institute of Archaeology and History annual round up of individual finds and discoveries for 2005 (S5)
