Full Description
February 2006: hull fragment from wreck exposed (washed up?) on beach, with trenails & squared timbers and planks, circa 575 by 250 cm. Probably Post Medieval?. Photographed and planned (S1)(S2). Location circa 400m inland on earlier maps.
13 Feb 2006: Visit by Linzi Everett - the beach has been seriously scoured recently, a couple of feet of sand have gone since my last visit there not too long ago.
-it is sitting in gravel no where near any peat deposits.
-it looks like the chunk off the side of a large vessel.
-no obvious metal fixtures or fittings but the concretions at various points give a signal from the metal detector.
-the large horizontal timbers appear to be sawn, and of a soft wood; the vertical planks might be oak (S3). Report to follow.
