Full Description
Site of Medieval Manor of Hadleighs, known as Hadleigh Place in 1783 (S1) and Place Farm in 1880s (OS map). Now largely developed, although there may be some building survival (though nothing is Listed).
Area defined on HER map as mapped on 1880s OS map.
16th century perimeter wall 'recently' Listed by English heritage according to (S2) but no evidence that it actually is (if it survives?).
Further research needed (Sue Andrews is hoping to research this manor as part of a Diploma in Landscape History with the University of East Anglia S2).
Note: area to S shown as open ground named 'The Green' on 1880s map but shown with a range of buildings on Hodskinsons map (and now partly rebuilt over).
Note: The Hadleigh Archive Group (Town Council Offices) hold various computerised records including references to this site and one for a monastery (?) at Place Farm - needs checking.
