Full Description
1800: two circular mounds are drawn within 'Hillock Close' on estate map (S3). Not known which barrows these might be but probably WRW 001 and either WRW 009 or 047.
Possibly easternmost of three mapped barrows on OS Ist edition, or another not mapped (or natural?). Some confusion as to the exact locations of the original barrows (see WRW 008), indeed the south-easternmost is much smaller and possibly not a depiction of a barrow at all.
OS mapped barrows need close plotting - a rapid measurement comparing the 1836 map copy with the 1880s mapping actually suggests the south-easternmost of the group is the monument now scheduled as Traveller's Hill!
1935 - A bowl barrow covered with trees. A smaller bowl barrow each side of it (see WRW 008, WRW 009), as marked on OS lst Edition. These additional examples are under grass but look as if they have been ploughed in former times (S2).
Aug 2008: possible round barrow to east of Traveller's Hill (WRW 001). Part of group (WRW 001, 008 & 009).
Examination following clearfell - very slight (up to 20cm high),covered with brambles and in situ pine stumps - not certain barrow (S1) though agrees with earlier descibed location by OS in 1935 - see below (S2).
April-May 2009: recorded as circa 30m diameter and 0.4m high mound and mapped ('Mound A') as part of Rapid Earthwork Identification Survey (S4).
