Full Description
Circular mound of circa 20m diameter and 40-50cm high at centre. Mostly in Forestry plantation, also partly in adjoining ride. Probably round barrow. Cited location approximate (S1).
Discovered in September 2008 by Paul Macreath of Forestry Commission prior to clearfelling (S2).
May 2018. 'Brecks from Above' and Breckland National Mapping Programme.
The probable Bronze Age round barrow described above is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs (S3) and on imagery from a 2015 lidar survey (S4). It is not particularly clear, and the actual mound may be larger than mapped. This mound is the westernmost of a large group of mounds identified in this area. Together, these probably represent the remains of a dispersed Bronze Age round barrow cemetery, most of which falls within Norfolk, where it is recorded as NHER 62464. It is likely that the mound still survives as an earthwork.
S. Tremlett (Norfolk Historic Environment Service), 10th May 2018.
