Full Description

Rifle range shown on 1880s and later maps.
1880s: 750 yards long between TL 7381 7434 and TL 7292 7419, with 'Markers Butts' with earthwork bank at E end.
1900s: 1000 yards long with 'post' at W end.
2008: western half of range visited - at '750 yards' a small circular mound survives; at TL 7328 7425 & TL 7348 7431 (approx) are north to south 60m long banks, circa 60 cm high, faced with breeze blocks.
The 'Markers Butts' at the E end was not visited but is presumed to survive as an earthwork.
Presumably associated with a local 19th century militia. Documentary sources not checked.
