Monitoring revealed dense disturbance over most of the central area of the site, with a series of inter-cutting large pits and two post-medieval possible cellars. At the western end of the site, along the Bridewell Lane frontage, an horizon of chalk was recorded. This was laid over the natural subsoil in a 12cm deep band and possibly represented the vestiges of a floor surface. Overlying the chalk in level strata were possible occupation and/or destruction layers consisting of charcoal and crushed mortar rubble. Both these and the chalk were undated (S1).
