Full Description

16th C timber-framed and weatherboarded 7 bay barn with a clasped purlin roof. In the 17th C, 2 bays were used as a neathouse. Adjacent to this is a 17th C oak-framed and weatherboarded 4.5 bay stable with a granary above. This structure contains an original medieval staircase and diamond mullioned windows. In the 19th C it was used to house a mill, however overall this is a high quality and very complete example of a 17th C granary (S1).

Recorded as part of the Farmsteads in the Suffolk Countryside Project. This is a purely desk-based study and no site visits were undertaken. These records are not intended to be a definitive assessment of these buildings. Dating reflects their presence at a point in time on historic maps and there is potential for earlier origins to buildings and farmsteads. This project highlights a potential need for a more in depth field study of farmstead to gather more specific age data.
