Full Description
All Saints Church. There are two recorded Domesday churches in the parish of Sudbourne; the second is thought to be loacated in the parish of Iken (S4).
Blocked Norman S doorway with two orders of colonnettes much restored. One Norman S window. S Porch with fleurons in the hood-mould and a square frame above it... much renewed and added to (transepts) in 1879. Font of circa 1200 is a big stone cauldron on four strong shafts with moulded capitals.... (S1).
Church history records hoard of circa 2,600 silver coins of Henry II, John & Henry III found during restoration of church in 1870-1880 period, found on N side of aisle (S2)(S3)(R1)(R2).
March 1991: Pottery scatter found after minor landscaping on S side of graveyard, mostly in strip circa 5m wide adjacent to wall on S edge (S2). Also Rom.
