Full Description

2006: Archaeological evaluation and monitoring of three house plots on land at New Road, Long Melford, identified a series of large pits of early Roman date. The finds assemblage from the pits indicates domestic activity in the vicinity from the Late Iron Age/Roman through to the mid Roman periods. By the mid 3rd century significant activity in the area appears to have ceased with features being sealed by a late Roman soil layer (S1).

Included in the Proceedings of the Suffolk Institute of Archaeology and History annual round up of individual finds and discoveries for 2006 (S2).
