Full Description
Pottery brought in by Mavis Baker of the School House, Bradfield St Clare (1977), found whilst digging the garden: 32 grams shell tempered St Neot's type ware, date range C12-C13; 320 grams Med coarse wares in sandy fabric, both oxidised and reduced, date range C13-C14; 160 grams late Med glazed or fine wares, date range C14-C15; 100 grams PMed all showing traces of glaze, date range C17-early C19.
Conclusions: The Med pot could indicate an occupation site ?. NB: Large size of ditch reported running S from the plot, the hedge adjacent has been dated by Mavis to circa C15 ?. This could be a green ditch with the pottery coming from an adjacent croft. Late and PMed wares - not enough to represent continuous occupation (S3).
TM 914 575A area brought in by Mavis Baker, June 1983: 3 rim sherds 50 grams C13-C14; body sherds 150 grams Med; 2 green glazed body sherds Late Med; stoneware fragment late Med/PMed (S4).
