Full Description
"definitely AS decorated pottery" (see 'Not to be published on web' tab for finder/s and/or findspot/s). ? Scatter elsewhere to N. Rectangular hut floor - ox skull and spearhead (R1).
Basil Brown records that Saxon pottery found by Mr Page and others had impressed ornamentation, swastika, cross & dot etc., probably from cinerary urn (S1).
Stanley West Ms, 1954, records Saxon finds at (see 'Not to be published on web' tab for finder/s and/or findspot/s) (hut floor, skull with Saxon spearhead), (see 'Not to be published on web' tab for finder/s and/or findspot/s). He states the settlement `on (see 'Not to be published on web' tab for finder/s and/or findspot/s), consists of scattered hearth sites, each with typical fifth-sixth century hand-made Sax sherds. In Hearth 14, the only decorated Sax sherd in the whole Butley region was found, and in Hearth 9 an iron spear-head with a split socket was discovered. This hut was examined by a interested local inhabitant and appeared to be a subrectangular area with a central hearth, measuring approximately twelve feet by sixteen feet'. 1989: Half pair tweezers, with slight groove & discontinuous punched dots along margins, found metal detecting by(see 'Not to be published on web' tab for finder/s and/or findspot/s)(possibly Rom?). Drawn (S3).
