Collapse in highway on Chalk Road in 1940s - possible underground workings.
Collapse in the highway about 100 yards from Risbygate Street on Chalk Road in the mid-1940s. This necessitated a road closure. Possibly a tunnel relating to chalk mines of an unknown date (see BSE 171).
Close to ventilation shaft for galleries BSE 188 (Victoria Street) and another further south on Chalk Road (see BSE 184). Further South see voids etc (see BSE 287). (S1)
