Full Description

Excavation identified Roman features and finds (S1).

An Early to middle Roman settlement was located just over nine kilometres north of Wixoe Roman Town. The evaluation identified five ditched, which were mostly undated. One ditch did contain Roman pottery. A subsequent excavation identified two enclosures, a cobbled trackway and a number of associated features indicating an Early to Middle Roman Farmstead. Combing the evidence from the evaluation and excavation this possibly covered an area measuring c.150m by 100m. Pottery evidence suggested the settle/farmstead may have originated in the post-conquest period, possibly being abandoned during the 3rd to 4th centuries AD (S2).
