Full Description
1977: A Range to the south of the Inhabited Bently Hall was being renovated/restored. It is of three bays jettied on the northern side, and dating to the 15th Century. During the lowering of the floors structures were found in the eastern and middle bays. In the Eastern Bay was a circular pathway of cobbles with a stone pivot at the centre, with a corresponding hole In the beam above. No dating evidence was identified but it is a probable mill or press. In the middle bay a brick structure was revealed below the floor with much associated charcoal and ash. In the area exposed was two parallel brick walls of flue like appearance. The bricks were handmade and Fairley thin. These were probably Tudor. This could have been a smithing furnace which could have connected into the existing chimney (S1).
