Full Description

2013: An archaeological community event excavating 29 test pits by local residents and other volunteers. The event was organised by the Hoxne Heritage Group, as part of their HLF funded project 'The Story of Hoxne'. The test pits frequently demonstrated that preserved archaeological layers are present - see HXN 062, 063-072 and DEN 012

A large infilled feature that cut into the subsoil was seen in Test Pit 7, which may represent to edge of a terrace dug into the natural slope for the original building footprint. Small quantities of post-medieval pottery, CBM, clay pipe fragments, glass and a wooden bead were amongst the artefacts recovered (S1).
