Full Description

Martello Tower (No 7) - built 1810-1812 to support a forward battery (S3).
The tower stands on golf course and is used for storage. Most of rendering still survives but the plinth is badly broken. Traces of ditch at its base. It has an original chimney. A door has been made into the ground floor (S1). 1981: Plinth absolutely disintegrated in most places. Rendering fair to seaward side but falling off badly especially to SW. Brickwork pitted. Stone surrounds on roof has small shrub & weed growing out of it with resulting deterioration to brick courses immediately below (S1).
`Martello Tower T' and `Battery' shown on OS 1st edition map (S2).

From early plan of Tower and Battery (19th century) (S3): Tower on raised area of ground, maybe battery as well. Similar design to Tower Q and Battery Q. Guard room and magazine at battery. 4 cannon emplacements. Viewing area at tip of main triangle. Battery built flush to the beach with view points overtapping. Ditch has a small circular gallion (drain?) is shown in a south-eastern portaision from the ditch.
