Full Description

Martello Tower S(?)(site of) - abandoned in 1835 as unsafe. 'Cement Rocks' noted on beach on OS 1st ed map of 1838. Said to be in area of front garden of Martello Place (at TM316351), which was named as 'Tower Ground (pasture)' on 1838 tithe map (though an irregular shape). Mapped on HER map at this location though note below.
An alternative location, however, may be a plot to NE on 1904 OS map (note 1884 OS map does not show military instalations), which was a regular rectangular shape (where surviving) and is evenly spaced between towers R and T. See Martello file. If suggested location is correct then possible partial enclosure survival (marked as car park on modern map, though probably badly damaged by former Brackenberry Barracks etc).
Note a futher possibility may be a circular 'building outline' mapped on 1880s OS map (no longer on 1904 ed) at Cobbolds Point to SW, at TM 31503490, which is shown as circa 15m in diameter within, and to the NW side, of part of a possible sub-square enclosure (in which Felixtow Lodge stood on 1880 OS map & Langer Lodge on 1838 tithe map).
