Full Description
February 2015. Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Beauty National Mapping Programme.
Fragmentary ditches which may represent possible field boundaries are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs (S1) on land surrounding Sandy Lane Farm, Dunwich.
They are visible amongst a background of geological marks, hence it was difficult to be certain of the extent of the archaeological features, especially since many of the features in this area were showing up as ‘lodging’ in the crop. It is possible that these features relate to post medieval drainage ditches or boundaries associated with the farm, but they were mapped since they were not depicted on the 1st edition Ordnance Survey map (S2).
E. Ford (Norfolk Historic Environment Service), 11th February 2015.
