Full Description
December 2015. Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty National Mapping Programme.
A Second World War vehicle park and other military features are visible as earthworks and structures on aerial photographs (S1). The vehicle park, mapped by extent at TM 4145 5216, was recorded by the Defence of Britain Project (S2). In addition to this, some sort of track or circuit, possibly encircling an earthwork platform (at TM 4135 5243), is evident to its northwest, a possible barbed wire barrier to its south, small huts or other structures along the eastern limit of the field, and shallow ditches, perhaps the remnants of anti-landing trenches, to the west. The site lies within an extensive area of military training (SUE 133), within the Orford Battle Training Area (ORF 137). On more recent aerial photographs the site appears to have been entirely levelled.
