Full Description

26/08/1999: Only one length (on E side) of footing trench open - Large feature, probably ditch, 2.4m wide & dug to 1.5m depth (& still going down) with steep sides, fill dark brown to black with wood and charcoal fragments, homogenous, with large timber in section (part recoved with mortice slot), said by contractor to be running diagonally from top towards base.
31/08/1999: Visit to look in other trenches, but already concreted. Contractor reported that hole seen by CP was approx 2 - 2.5m deep and had wooden shuttering. Nothing seen in other trenches.
