Full Description
2015: A single trench evaluation revealed a rectangular clay lined feature and a possible post-hole or small pit. The internal faces of the feature were scorched suggesting an in-situ heating although the precise purpose of the feature was unknown. A small number of medieval pottery sherds were recovered from the pit fill, which may be contemporary with the feature (S1).
2015: Archaeological monitoring revealed a further section of the clay-lined pit that had partly exposed in the previous evaluation on the site. The pit was interpreted as likely to be the remains of a domestic bread oven. A small group of unstratified pottery were recovered from the vicinity of the feature dating from the late medieval through to the early post medieval periods (S2).
Included in the Proceedings of the Suffolk Institute of Archaeology and History annual round up of individual finds and discoveries for 2015 (S3).
