Full Description
November 2015. Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty National Mapping Programme.
A small tower of Second World War date is visible as an extant structure on 1940s aerial photographs (S1)-(S3); an additional temporary structure is visible to its northwest on (S2). The tower lies within the Orford Battle Training Area (ORF 137), and was perhaps used for observation of training activity. It could instead be an observation post for field artillery, but its location does not correlate with the recorded position of known posts (Liddiard and Sims 2014, (S4)). Later aerial photographs indicate that the structure had been removed by 1948.
S. Tremlett (Norfolk Historic Environment Service), 26th November 2015.
