Please read our .

Summary

The cropmarks and earthworks of a series of enclosures, trackways, boundaries and possible building platform of probable medieval date are visible on aerial photographs at Valley Farm. Also within the area of the site is the previously recorded enclosure and/or moat (BUT 032). Finds in the area of Valley Farm include substantial amounts of medieval pottery, in particular that dating to the thirteenth century pottery (BUT 009, BUT 026-7). These finds, along with the character of the cropmarks and earthworks, would suggest that this site represent an area of medieval settlement. Although it must be noted that possible Roman finds were also recovered from this vicinity (BUT 027).

The southwestern part of the site is under arable and was visible as cropmarks. Some features are likely to survive as earthworks within the northwestern part of the site.
