Full Description
April 2016. Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty National Mapping Programme.
Possible evidence of settlement, one or more trackways, and a fragmentary field system, all of unknown date, is visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs (S1). One or more possible ring ditches, perhaps representing roundhouses, are also visible. Numerous pit-like cropmarks are also evident, the most prominent of which have been mapped. Two are elongated in shape and could feasibly be sunken featured buildings. At the same time, the aerial photographs are not particularly clear, and there is considerable confusion with cropmarks relating to geology, recent agricultural activity and drainage. Also, due to a lack of control points, rectification of the aerial photograph used for mapping was poor and this may have adversely affected the accuracy of the mapping.
S. Tremlett (Norfolk Historic Environment Service), 7th April 2016.
