Full Description

2018: An archaeological evaluation was carried out on a parcel of land to the southwest of High Road, Trimley St Martin, Suffolk, in advance of the construction of a compound (known as Area D) to facilitate railway works on the nearby Felixstowe branch line. Nine trenches, totalling 270m in length, were excavated. Within these trenches occasional undated ditches cut into the natural subsoil were identified. They are probably parts of field systems that could potentially be prehistoric or Roman in date. The features were not identified until a masking layer of windblown silts had been removed although it was not clear if the features were sealed by or cut through this material. (S3)

Monitoring in 2017 and 2018 for other areas of the enhancement works were negative (S1 S2)
