Please read our .

Summary

A rather disparate group of boundaries, ridges and pits, all of unknown but probably post medieval date, are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs and imagery from a 2015 lidar survey. They are partially overlain by a probable gravel quarry (SHER STN 161). Many of the earthworks still survive, while others have been levelled.

Full Description

November 2017. 'Brecks from Above' and Breckland National Mapping Programme.
A rather disparate group of boundaries, ridges and pits, are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs (S1)-(S2) and imagery from a 2015 lidar survey (S3). They are all of unknown but probably post medieval date. They are partially overlain by a probable gravel quarry (SHER STN 161), itself of probably post medieval date. Like other areas of ridging identified in the surrounding area, the ridges could reflect past cultivation of this area, or could relate to an early plantation. Other parallel marks, which have not been mapped, are likely to be 'patterned ground', and of geological origin. The pits may have been created by more localised extraction of sand, gravel or other materials. Many of the earthworks still survive, while others have been levelled.
