Full Description

Parkfield Farm, Laxfield. Completely demolished 19th century or earlier farmstead. The only building visible on the 1st ed Ordnance Survey maps is the farmhouse however other buildings are present on the tithe map. There was an isolated barn (LXD 100) to the east which may have been connected. The site is still visible in 1947 but has since been completely demolished. Located within an isolated position. (S1-6).

This site may be the remnants of an earlier medieval farm. Modern Parkfield Farm lies to the west and a house named Parkfield Farm also exists to the east however this is a modern addition and not the same building as the one depicted on the 1880s Ordnance Survey map.

Recorded as part of the Farmsteads in the Suffolk Countryside Project. This is a purely desk-based study and no site visits were undertaken. These records are not intended to be a definitive assessment of these buildings. Dating reflects their presence at a point in time on historic maps and there is potential for earlier origins to buildings and farmsteads. This project highlights a potential need for a more in depth field study of farmstead to gather more specific age data.
