Full Description
Grove Farm is a farmstead visible on the 1st Ed Os Map. The farmstead is laid out in two regular L-plan ranges with the farmhouse attached to the smaller L-plan. The farmstead sits alongside a private track in a loose farmstead cluster. There has been a significant loss of working buildings with the remaining converted for residential use.
Recorded as part of the Farmsteads in the Suffolk Countryside Project. This is a purely desk-based study and no site visits were undertaken. These records are not intended to be a definitive assessment of these buildings. Dating reflects their presence at a point in time on historic maps and there is potential for earlier origins to buildings and farmsteads. This project highlights a potential need for a more in depth field study of farmstead to gather more specific age data.
Grove Farm is a historic farmstead which contains Grove Farmhouse to the north, and a southern L-plan range of farm buildings, which are the subject to this recording. The farm is positioned adjacent to a private track and forms part of a loosely clustered agricultural settlement. Grove Farmhouse itself is understood to have been constructed between 1580 and 1600. Within the farm complex, the threshing barn, stables, and granary are all timberframed structures and are also likely to date to this period. The threshing barn and granary are linked by a Victorian double-sided brick cartlodge
