Full Description

Green Farm is a farmstead visible on the 1st Ed Os map. The farmstead is laid out in a loose courtyard with the farmhouse set aide on to the yard and additional detached elements nearby. The farmstead sits alongside a private track in a village location. There has been a partial loss of working buildings with the modern sheds on site (S1-4).

Recorded as part of the Farmsteads in the Suffolk Countryside Project. This is a purely desk-based study and no site visits were undertaken. These records are not intended to be a definitive assessment of these buildings. Dating reflects their presence at a point in time on historic maps and there is potential for earlier origins to buildings and farmsteads. This project highlights a potential need for a more in depth field study of farmstead to gather more specific age data.

The farmhouse is a grade II listed 17th and 18th century timber-framed building. It was probably orginally thatched but now has a plain tile roof. A storey-and-a-half range with gabled dormers and casement windows dates from the 17th century. In the 18th century a two-storey addition with attic rooms in the roof was added. The Farmhouse has two easily differentiated phases of building: the Grand Part and the Modest Part. The outbuildings include an early-19th century three-bay cartlodge, a mid-20th century garage/shed, a late-19th/early-20th century piggery, and an historic barn and stable that have already been converted (S5-6).
