Full Description

Moat(?). Isolated, occupied, fragmentary. Enclosures. Bulldozed 1967 - remains of two hearths, pottery (mostly C15), an iron key (London Museum catalogue type VIIA), two horseshoes and portions of two limestone mortars were found(S2). Bocking Hall (to N of and outside moat) is C16- C17, modernised (S1).
Status as moat queried in (S2). ` A light scatter of Tudor brick and tile at TM 1799 5885' (S2).
William de Bocking lived at Helmingham in the reign of Edward III (1327- 1377)(S2).
Also C16 base of glazed chafing dish found in ploughsoil at TM 179 587 (S4).
