Full Description
`Lowestoft, Jan.25: Yesterday morning about 9 o'clock, the wind blowing hard at east, the SARAH brig, Cozens master, from Newcastle to London, laden with coals, lead, and sundry other goods, struck on the sand, in attempting to pass the Stanford, by which she received so much damage, that the master was obliged to run her on shore, to prevent her foundering in deep water. She was stranded directly opposite to the town of Pakefield. But as there was a flat beach, a very rough sea, and a flood tide, no assistance could be afforded to the unhappy crew, till low water at 8 o'clock at night, when the master and four men were taken alive from the foretopmast shrouds, in a skiff, launched by the Lowestoft seamen...A passenger, and a boy belonging to the vessel, died upon the rigging...it is supposed the lead will be saved.'
