Full Description
BRITISH CARGO VESSEL, 1863
Status: Casualty
`From North Shields with coal, was at anchor in Aldeburgh Bay when run down by an unidentified barque. In the collision she lost her bowsprit and parted from her cable, shortly after becoming totally unmanageable. The crew of the Kessingland lifeboat under Coxswain Thomas Hunter with 15 crew, launched and went to their assistance and remained by the vessel for some time then, finding it impossible to save her, took off the crew and landed them at Lowestoft. Each of the 16 lifeboatmen received a reward of 10 shillings from the Mercantile Marine Fund.' (1)
