ENGLISH SCHOONER, 1852
Status: Casualty

Vessel stranded and lost in wind conditions SSE force 10,
accompanied by thick sleet and rain. The lifeboat saved the master,
and the mortar apparatus four crew members. The wreck took place due
to the thick weather,the crew being unable to see land. Estimated
loss on vessel which was insured, 800; loss on the cargo 80. (1)(2)

`Southwold, 11th Jan: The WILLIAM COOK, of Yarmouth, from Hartlepool to Ramsgate, went on shore this morning during a gale from the SSE, and will become a wreck; crew, except one man, saved.' (3)
