Full Description

1803 incident in which an English cargo vessel grounded on Corton Beach, on her passage to Sunderland in ballast. Shortly afterwards recovered, she was a wooden sailing vessel.
Status: Casualty

'The WILLIAM, Amott, of Whitstable, bound to Sunderland; the ORWELL...the SIDNEY SMITH...are on shore near Yarmouth. Crews saved.' (1)

NB: Source (2) is based on source (1) only; the vessel is therefore indexed under Norfolk (CC), with a reporting date of loss of 18-JAN-1803, based on the issue date of source (1).

'The WILLIAM, of Whitstable, bound to Sunderland, in ballast, is ashore on Cotton [sic] Beach, near Yarmouth. Crew saved.' (4)

'Yarmouth, Jan. 14. The following ships went on shore on Corton Beach in the late gale: the WILLIAM, of Winstable [sic], in ballast, bound to Sunderland for coals, crew saved . . . ' (5)

'The WILLIAM, Arnott, that went on shore 9th January, is got off and put into Yarmouth.' (3)
