Full Description

1807 wreck of English cargo vessel which stranded near Corton en route from Shields to Rochester with coal; a wooden sailing vessel.
Status: Casualty

`The ORPHAN, of Whitstable, from Shields...with coals, was driven on shore near Great Yarmouth on the 22nd inst.' (1)

`Yarmouth, Oct. 23. Last night we had a heavy gale at SE. The ORPHAN, of Whitstable, for Rochester, from Shields, with coals, came on shore near Corton; also the HOPEWELL...The ship is wrecked, but the crew saved.' (2)

NB: The phraseology of sources (2) and (3) is unclear, but may refer to the ORPHAN since the HOPEWELL is prefaced with "...also...". Alternatively, both vessels may have been wrecked.
