Full Description

1829 wreck of English brig which stranded on the south end of the Newcome Sand on her passage from Newcastle-upon-Tyne with coal; a wooden sailing vessel.
Status: Casualty

`Went on the south end of the Newcome Sand. The Lowestoft lifeboat, after crossing the Newcome, ran to windward of the vessel, veered down to her, and although the heavy seas were breaking over both vessels, managed to take off the master, eight men and a boy.' (2)

`Yarmouth 24th November: The THOMAS AND MARY, Wilson, of Newcastle, in running through the Stanford yesterday, struck on the Newcome Sand and was wrecked. Crew saved by the life boat.' (3)
