Full Description

ENGLISH SCHOONER,1835
Status: Casualty

`On a Sunday, in a SE gale, went on the Newcome. Four members of the
crew got into their long boat and made for the shore, leaving the
master and mate (his son), on board. As soon as the ship was seen to
be in trouble, a boat had gone out from Pakefield. This picked up the
four men from the schooner's boat, and as it was now dark, took them
ashore. Lowestoft lifeboat was immediately notified that two men
were still on the wreck, and after many attempts by rowing and
sailing, managed to rescue the two poor fellows from their perilous
position, landing them safely about 10.30pm. The vessel was a total
loss.' (1)
